FAQs

Active adults often experience occasional discomfort, but persistent or worsening knee pain could indicate an underlying issue. If your knee pain lasts beyond a few days, limits your daily activities, or is accompanied by swelling, it’s crucial to consult with a physical therapist who specializes in sports-related issues. Prompt assessment can help identify the root cause and prevent the condition from worsening.
Seeking relief from knee pain involves a personalized approach tailored to your specific condition. Sports-focused physical therapy is designed to enhance your range of motion, strengthen specific muscle groups, and employ targeted techniques to alleviate tension. By collaborating with a physical therapist, you can significantly reduce the severity of knee pain and potentially avoid invasive procedures such as surgery. A tailored physical therapy plan ensures a swift return to your favorite sports and activities.
The optimal treatment for knee pain depends on the individual and the underlying cause of the pain. Your physical therapist, understanding the demands of an active lifestyle, will conduct a comprehensive evaluation during your initial appointment. Based on the findings, a personalized treatment plan will be crafted, which may include a combination of therapies such as ice and heat treatments, manual therapy, posture improvement, targeted stretches, and exercises.
For active adults seeking relief from persistent knee pain, a drug-free approach is preferable, considering the potential side effects of medications. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and corticosteroids pose risks, including blood clots, heart issues, cataracts, high blood sugar, and bone loss. Physical therapy stands out as a safer and healthier alternative. During your consultation, your physical therapist will delve into your medical history, lifestyle, and specific pain areas to create a tailored treatment plan. This approach ensures long-term results, allowing you to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle without the reliance on medications.
Yes, physical therapy is an effective approach for addressing conditions such as tendinitis and cartilage damage. Through a combination of therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, and other specialized techniques, physical therapists can help reduce inflammation, promote healing, and improve the overall function of the affected knee joint. The personalized nature of physical therapy allows for targeted treatment plans that specifically address the unique challenges posed by tendinitis, cartilage damage, and other knee-related issues.
Neuromuscular reeducation is a crucial component of knee pain relief, focusing on improving the communication between the nerves and muscles around the knee joint. This specialized form of therapy helps correct faulty movement patterns, enhance proprioception (awareness of joint position), and restore proper muscle function. By retraining the neuromuscular system, individuals can regain stability, balance, and coordination, contributing to reduced pain and improved functional movement.

Can’t say enough about Wes

I hurt my leg training for a marathon and after working with him a few months, my leg feels GREAT! I just got home from a trip to Europe that I was a little worried about. I felt 100% the 2nd or 3rd day in Paris - maybe it was the 12-13 miles we were walking every day, maybe it was the French bread/wine, maybe it was both. Since i've been back, i've been riding my (indoor) bike too, just trying to get my leg stronger (still going to the gym, still doing my exercises).

THANK YOU for all of your efforts, your knowledge, your patience. I couldn't have done it without your guidance.  And it is 100000% appreciated.

Skilled and very engaging

I found Wes while he was at Diablo PT via Yelp when I needed help with severe sciatic pain. I was able to schedule sessions with Wes and was amazed at his knowledge, skill and very engaging personality.

At no time did I ever feel that I was getting a "cookie cutter" problem. He listens very well and works with you as an individual to provide exactly what you need.

I can't say enough good things about Wes and how much he helped me fully recover and get even better than I was before my injury.

I feel better each time I leave

Wes Anderson is one of the best physical therapist I have ever had. He is professional, bright, explains everything he is doing to strengthen my body, and I feel better each time I leave. He does not just give you a massage. He is breaking down tight muscles and gives me more flexibility and movement.
